Erie United Methodist Church is a small congregation of Christians seeking to love, know, and serve God better. We believe we do that best as we love and reach out to people in our world. We’d love to have you come on this journey with us. Yes, we use the word “love” a lot. It’s a Methodist thing.
What we believe
The United Methodist Church proclaims faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We worship God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and believe that God created us to be holy and happy. However, we and the world are fallen from that created purpose. There is pain, evil, sin, and suffering in the world. God came in the person of Jesus Christ and walked among us to free us from all of this and show us the way to the life that God intended for us from the beginning. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are strengthened and healed for that journey. We believe that no one can make this journey alone.
That is the one paragraph version. You can find longer statements about what we believe at the web site of the United Methodist Church. This link outlines the broader beliefs, including how we practice the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. What our worship service is like
We sing hymns, pray together, and hear the Word read and the message proclaimed every Sunday. Our youth take up special collections for missions that they feel called to support. Some people call it the noisy collection. You’ll find out why if you come. We invite families to worship together. We try to honor the best of the church’s ancient worship practices without forgetting we are a small, friendly congregation. People come to worship dressed in different ways — whatever they feel most comfortable coming to church in. The first Sunday of every month, we share the Lord’s Supper. All Christians are welcome at the table.
